The Swiss Confederation on yearly basis awards Government Excellence Scholarships to foreign students to enhance the promotion of international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 other countries across the world. The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students as the awarding body, is saddled with the responsibility of selecting the most qualified applicants for these scholarships.
The Swiss Excellence Scholarships are targeted at harvesting the potentials of young researchers from foreign countries who have completed their Master’s degree or PhD and foreign artists who have bagged their Bachelor’s degree.
The scholarships are of two types – research scholarships and arts scholarships. The research scholarships are available and awarded to post-graduate researchers in any discipline with minimum qualification of Master’s degree and are planning to come to Switzerland for their doctoral or post-doctoral research or studies. On the other hand, art scholarships are open to art students wishing to pursue an initial Master’s degree in Switzerland. However, the art scholarships are only available to students of limited number of countries.
Research scholarships are hosted by all Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, the two federal institutes of technology and the four research institutes in Switzerland. The art scholarships are awarded for study at any conservatory or university of the arts in Switzerland.
