Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung is a registered non-profit organization.Its highest decision-making body is the Mitgliederversammlung, or General Assembly. Its work is mainly supported by the dedication and commitment of a great number of volunteers across Germany. Rosa Luxemburg Stitung International Scholarships are sponsored by the Scholarship Department of the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung in Germany. It awards Master’s and PhD scholarships to highly qualified students of other countries who wish to study in Germany. Beneficiaries are mostly individuals that demonstrate high level social and political engagement.
The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung is among the six major political foundations in the Federal Republic of Germany that are tasked primarily with conducting political education both at home and abroad. The foundation is closely linked to Die Linke, the German Left Party. It was found in 1990 and named after a German socialist leader Rosa Luxemburg. The foundation seeks to represent democratic socialism with an unwavering internationalist focus and it is committed to a radical perspective emphasizing public awareness, enlightenment and social critique.
The scholarship is hosted by German Universities and it covers Masters and PhD Degrees in any subject, except for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary medicine. It has no specific number of beneficiaries per year.
The scholarship is targeted at international students from over the world. However, preference is given to women, students of non-academic and migrant backgrounds,the socially needy and people with disabilities.
Value and Inclusions
For international student, the scholarship does not cover tuition fees. It is only in form a living grant and it lasts throughout the duration of the standard study program period. The Rosa Lexumburg Stiftung’s Scholarship Department organizes practical training in fiels such rhetoric, conflict management and other key skills. Time management, self-management, bolstering academic qualifications, text and writing workshops and specific seminar on methodology are also the inclusions to the scholarship. Beneficiaries will also enjoy a wide range of support consisting of political education events and summer schools workshops conducted both domestically and abroad, symposia and educational trips.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
The Scholarship Department awards PhD only to students who are temporarily residing in Germany either for study or research purposes while MA are offered to foreign students. The eligibility requirements are:
- German language proficiency (B2 level or above)
- PhD students must be accepted at a German university
- MA Students must be enrolled at a state or state-recognized German university.
For the selection criteria, the following will be considered:
- Proof of professional academic qualification.
- Political and social engagement in line with the aims of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung.
- Personal/family background.
- German language proficiency (B2 level or above).
Ensure that you submit your online application form and the accompanying documents before 1 October 2021 for grants beginning in the summer semester and 1 April 2022 for grants beginning in the winter semester.
