Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and perhaps the world most prestigious international scholarship program. The program is hosted by Oxford University, UK and it selects a class of 95 scholars each year who are to study any full-time postgraduate degree at the university and its duration is two years.
Eligible students from Australia, Malaysia, Bermuda, Canada, China, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Jamaica & the Commonwealth Caribbean, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine (SJLP), United Arab Emirates, United States, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Botswana, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, the Island of Saint Helena, Senegal, Sierra Leone, São Tomé and Principe, Togo, Malawi, Gambia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are selected for this scholarship. The selection is strictly on academic merit.
The countries mentioned above are the Rhodes constituencies and students from countries that are not in the above list are required to apply to Global Rhodes Scholarships.
Scholarship value and inclusions
If you are selected for a Rhodes Scholarship, you will receive the following:
- All University or College fees;
- The University application fee;
- A living stipend of £15,900 per year;
- Settling in allowance (£225 in 2019-20), health insurance,
- Visa and two economy class flights (to and from the UK) for the beginning and end of your studies in Oxford.

Every applicant must fulfill the citizenship and residency requirements of the Rhodes constituency for which they are applying. Please click here to see your country or continental region where your country falls.
Age limit is another eligibility factor and it varies between constituencies and range from a minimum age limit of 18 to a maximum of 28 by 1 October of the year following selection. However, in some constituencies, the age limit is 24 or 25. Applicants are advised to carefully check the specific age requirements for their various constituencies (countries) before applying. Successful applicants will arrive in Oxford the October following the selection process.
Due to the competitive nature of entry into the University of Oxford, the academic standing of an applicant must be sufficiently high to ensure admission into the University. This will also help to build confidence in the program that Rhodes scholars will perform and compete lively with high academic standard in Oxford. It is because of the high standard nature of Oxford University that some constituencies are even required to have taken undergraduate degree within the constituency of application before applying.
