Orange Knowledge Programme Scholarships in Netherlands

Do you want to study in Netherlands? Do not worry, Orange Knowledge Programme Scholarships are here for you. The programme is initiated and funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by Nuffic. It aims at harvesting the potentials of young scholars and even organizations from specific countries who are interested in contributing their respective quotas to the advancement of human capacity and sustainable society. Host institutions

The scholarships are hosted by Dutch universities that offer Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) qualified courses.

Level and field of study

The scholarships are for:

  • short courses of between 2 weeks and 12 months duration; and
  • Master’s programmes of between 12 months and 24 months duration.

Target group

The scholarships are available for mid-career professionals who are nationals of -and living and working in the following countries:

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Colombia, Congo (DRC), Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar, Niger, Nigeria, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen and Zambia.

Scholarship value and inclusions

The Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) scholarships are intended to supplement the salary that a candidate should continue to receive during the scholarships period. The scholarships are seen as contributions towards candidate’s costs of living and other costs such as tuition fees, visa, travel, insurance etc. Candidates are to, on their own, cover any difference between the OKP scholarship amount and the actual costs.

Application instructions

You cannot apply for this scholarship without being nominated. Therefore, before you apply, make sure you carefully review the eligibility criteria and check whether your employer is willing to nominate you for the scholarship.

After being nominated, you are to apply directly with a Dutch higher education institution that offers the OKP qualified course of your choice. Contact the Dutch higher education institution for further application procedures. The institution can give you more information on the various steps involved in the application and selection procedures, as well as the eligibility criteria. This is because some institutions have their own eligibility criteria, application and selection procedures.

Orange Knowledge Programme has  3 candidate application rounds for individual scholarships and they are:

  • Round 1: 3 February to 23 March 2021 for courses starting between between 26 July and 21 November 2021.
  • Round 2: 12 May to 29 June 2021 for Short Courses starting between 22 November 2021 and 20 February 2022.
  • Round 3: 1 September to 12 October 2021 for Short Courses starting on or after 21 February 2022 and ending before 31 August 2022.

Note: As at the time of this publication, the application deadlines for round 1 and round 2 have already passed. Interested persons are advised to hurry and apply for the round 3 whose application is still in progress.

Selection procedures

The selection procedures for this scholarship follow the steps below:

  • Candidates register with their Dutch education institution
  • Dutch institution nominates candidates and submits grant application
  • Embassies check eligibility and assess applications
  • Selection results published
